Day Two – Lockdown

Kia ora e te whanau,

Here we are on day two of our lockdown. Just so you know we are on holidays from the end of the day.

A big shout out to those of you who a physically not within our Avalon School Community, past teachers, students and whanau. Once you have been a part of our Avalon School whanau, you will always belong, no matter where you end up.

I heard of a lovely idea yesterday. Get a container and every time you think of something that you are missing because you are in lockdown e.g playing with friends, going to the park etc, write it on a piece of paper and put it into your container. At the end of the lockdown period this could be your bucket list. Choose one every day to do, just because you can. You may find that it is the simple everyday things that give you the most joy and pleasure.

You all know that I love chess, however I only ever learned how to play from my dad. While that has served me well up to now the kids are getting better and I am getting beaten regularly, so I have started to get lessons from an online chess programme. I am doing lessons and puzzles to improve my chess. I look forward to getting back to school to play some of our Avalon champions. The site I am going to is chess.com and it costs about $6.00 a month, however there may be a free trial period. Lichess is a free website where you can also get lessons and challenges.

Keep writing that isolation diary, it will interesting reading in the future. This is an extraordinary period of our history and you are a part of it.

You have my contact details, reach out if you need support or even if the kids want to email me . I promise that I will respond.
